Crystal A deGregory, Ph.D. | Dorian and Beyond, Founder + Director
A proud native of Freeport, Bahamas, historian and storyteller Dr. Crystal A. deGregory is a research fellow at Middle Tennessee State University’s Center for Historic Preservation in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. She was on the island of Grand Bahama during Hurricane Dorian and in the wake of its wreckage, gave voice to the sufferings and survival of the Bahamian people in international print, radio and television media including for TIME, New York Times, CBC, BBC and CNN. In the remaining months of 2019, she volunteered with various relief efforts as well as spearheaded her own “For The Children,” a school supply and uniform fund. A Phi Beta Kappa alumna of the historic Fisk University, she also earned Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in history from Vanderbilt University, and a Master of Education from Tennessee State University. Nia Cambridge | Dorian and Beyond, Project Manager
Born and raised in Nassau, Bahamas, Nia Cambridge is a geographer interested in bridging the gap between climate change science and public policy. Her interest in capturing the stories of hurricane survivors began in 2017, when Hurricane Irma decimated Ragged Island, and has since grown into a passion for identifying and rectifying factors that make certain populations more vulnerable to extreme climate events. An award-winning undergraduate research fellow, Nia has over two years of research and administrative experience. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Richmond where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa, and plans to commence graduate studies in Fall 2021. Davia Saunders | Dorian and Beyond, Program Assistant
Freeport native Davia Saunders is a rising junior at Burman University in Alberta, Canada. A psychology major, she is interested in pursuing a career with specialties in disaster and trauma psychology .
